Metis Elder Tony Belcourt will be holding a screening of the film, “Inendi” in the Sanctuary on September 28th at 2:00 pm. Inendi is a documentary film featuring matriarch Mary Belle, who is a survivor of the Spanish Residential School for Girls in the 1940’s and 50’s. This screening is presented by Reconciliation Through Art, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The doors open at 1:30 and the screening will start at 2pm. It’s about 45 minutes long and will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, Sarain Fox, and her family.
There will be other events that week such as a joyous musical performance at the Old Town Hall the following evening and on September 30th there will be an art show and teachings at the Textile Museum. Prior to the film screening at 1:15, on the Almonte United Church lawn there will be a very special presentation by Nimkii to perform the Hoop Dance. Nimkii is world-famous for his skill with Hoop Dancing, powwow dancing and traditional singing.
